Vancouver Canucks
Alain Vigneault says he’s up to the task of turning around the under-achieving Vancouver Canucks.
The NHL team introduced Vigneault as its new head coach on Tuesday, promoting him from its AHL team in Winnipeg and giving him the task of motivating a team general manager Dave Nonis says needs a "kickstart."
After Nonis fired coach Marc Crawford in April, he said it would be an off-season of changes for the Canucks, who missed the playoffs for the first time since 2000.
Vigneault says those changes won’t alter his vision for the team.
"I know this group might not have met expectations, but there’s a solid base here," he said. "Obviously, there’s some things that are going to be done personnel-wise.
"I’m going to make sure (the team is) well-prepared, works hard and plays with commitment and passion. All my teams have done that."
