Columbus Blue Jackets

After three stops in the National Hockey League, Mississauga's Manny Malhotra seems to have found a home.

The 26-year-old centre signed a three-year $3.6-million deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets earlier today.

Drafted by the New York Rangers in the first round and seventh overall in the 1998 draft, the 6-foot-2, 215-pound Malhotra spent parts of three seasons in New York before he was traded to the Dallas Stars where he played for three more seasons before the Blue Jackets claimed him off waivers in November of 2003.

Last season with the Blue Jackets, Malhotra had 10 goals and a career-high 21 assists in 58 games.

Better known as a defensive player, Malhotra won 56.3 per cent of his face-offs last season.

"Manny is a young player who brings outstanding size and speed at the centre position to our line-up," said Columbus general manager Doug MacLean. "He is a hard worker who wants to prove he is ready to take his game to the next level and he'll be given the chance to do so with our hockey club."
